LIBRARY RENOVATION

Library Staff are beginning the process of planning a Library renovation.  I will be meeting with ASHNU Leaders and would like to organize a Student Forum to get your ideas about what is needed most.  To begin the process, we would like your comments and ideas here on the Library Blog or you can contact me by e-mail (mclean@hnu.edu).  Any information sent by e-mail will remain confidential and will be used for the purposes of planning only.   By responding to this Blog, a virtual discussion can take place.  Here are some questions to get you started:

1.  What kind of space, furniture, equipment or services do you need that we don’t currently provide?

2.  What facilities, equipment and services are you are most likely to use and least likely to use? 

3.  Is the Library a physically comfortable, secure and welcoming environment?

4.  Do you feel comfortable asking Library Staff for assistance? 

5.  Are Library Staff available at the hours you need them to assist with research, locating library resources, using computers or other equipment?

SPRING 2008 LIBRARY HOURS

I am pleased to announce that Library hours for Spring 2008 have been extended to include Sunday afternoon.  Effective January 14, 2008 the Library will be open:

Library Hours (Spring 2008) 

Monday-Saturday:  9:00 AM -10:00 PM

Sunday:  1:00-5:00 PM

Thanks to all of you who commented on this blog or sent an e-mail message.  Voting was almost equally divided between Sunday afternoon and evening.  It was a difficult choice.  We will observe use patterns during the semester to determine whether these hours should be adjusted further.  

Your feedback is always welcome and enables us to serve you better.

LIBRARY HOURS EXTENDED TO MEET STUDENT NEEDS

I am very pleased to announce that the Paul J. Cushing Library hours are being extended to meet student needs. Beginning Thursday, October 4 the Library will be open as follows:

Library Hours (Fall 2007)

Monday - Saturday 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Sunday Additional hours are currently under consideration.

Reference Service Hours

Monday - Friday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Other times by appointment. Contact Catriona Wendroff (wendroff@hnu.edu)

Saturday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM on the following dates:

      October 6 and 20 November 3 and 17 December 1

      Sunday 1:00 - 5:00 PM or 6:00-10:00 PM?

WELCOME FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR

Welcome to the HNU Library Blog, a new forum for Library Staff to communicate with the members of the HNU Community: Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Neighbors.  Our intention is to provide information on available resources, guides and research tips to assist you and news about what’s happening in the Library.  Librarians are happy to respond to your research questions and to help you access the resources you need. Responding to your questions here will provide others the opportunity to share the answers.  You may also wish to request an appointment for in-depth research assistance or sign up for instruction in using Library resources.  

Your input is very important to us, so I hope you will use this Blog to engage us in conversations about what resources and services would be most useful and how we can better serve the HNU Community.
