The big chewy news here at your library is that we are now fully online with interlibrary loan through WorldCat, the global library catalog. This new service dramatically increases our ability to quickly get you the books and articles you need. With e-article delivery, fulfillment is sometimes even same-day.

Big thanks to Chris Kyauk and Nicole Greenland of the Library, and Bruce Deluna of Campus IT, for their teamwork in implementing online article delivery.

Reserve Your Reserves!

It’s not too late to request purchases for course reserves for fall or to place materials you own on reserve.  Many Holy Names students rely on these reserves to help stretch their higher-ed dollars. Contact Karen at schneider@hnu.edu.

Information Literacy Instruction: Taking Requests

Are you instructing sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, or adult baccalaureate degree students?

Daniel Ransom, our Information Literacy Librarian, offers classes, taught in the library classroom or your classroom, in which students can hone their research skills and improve their ability to navigate the complex world of digital information, online research, citation creation and management, and current library tools. If you would like to schedule a time slot for your course, please call or email Daniel at (510) 436-1060 or ransom@hnu.edu.

Daniel is also happy to work one-on-one with faculty who would like a personal refresher on new or changed resources. He’s also available to coach you through the use of our new citation management software, RefWorks (also found on our database page), or to help you find books or journal articles.

Copyright and the CHE

Have you heard about the copyright ruling related to using video snippets for instructional purposes? You can read more about it through the Library’s campus-wide subscription to the Chronicle of Higher Education, listed on our Databases page.
